A grassroots beginning
Alailelai Maasai Sustainability Organization, or AMSO, is a community-based, nonprofit organization run by Tanzanians living in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Founded in 2012 by a group of Maasai who sought to find solutions to the many problems facing their community, AMSO has become a focal point for progress.
Partnering with programs based in the United States and UK, AMSO’s current projects aim to improve life for local people in such areas as health, education, business opportunities and goats.
Because it is run by local people who know what their communities need, AMSO’s projects have specific, concrete goals and impacts and are ever expanding. And for the same reason, AMSO strives to achieve this social and economic improvement of their people while maintaining cultural traditions.
